He hadn't really known what he wanted, just that he wanted snacks for the movie, so he grabbed a bit of everything, and then a bit more of the ones he really wanted. Leaving him in charge of shopping is predictably like this: He spends too much, and then gets a bit embarrassed about it on his way back, because now it seems like he's putting in a bit too much effort.
